Orion Nebula and its running neighbor (2022, Ver. 2)
WORK IN PROGRESS
Orion season is coming to its end and weather was not very favorable, wherever I have been. Still, I was lucky enough to capture in this season data for two independent “Orion-Nebula-projects”.
The results of the first go I posted back in November last year (an image with 4 hours of data, caught in one night by a modern and cooled 16-bit astro-camera).
Now a couple of days ago I went for another attempt, using a 12-bit mono-camera with LRGB-filters, and collecting more than 10 hours of data in the course of three nights.
The image is more of a “work in progress”, as I am still on the road, equipped with a notebook, whose screen is not calibrated. Yet I trust the image is good enough, to be shared.
For info on the Orion Nebula pls have a look to my post in November 2021.
Now the nerdy part: the image was taken in La Palma over 3 nights, with no moon present. It is composed out of 556 individual images, thereof 277 images of 2 minutes exposure time and 279 images of 10 seconds exposure time, thus summing up to 10 hours and 30 minutes of collecting light. The imaging was done with a Newtonian Telescope of 430 mm focal length and a cooled 12 bit monochromatic astronomy camera, using a luminance filter, as well as filters for red, green and blue color. The editing was done solely in PixInsight.
