Mystic Sunrise, at last

Poelua Bay, Maui, Hawaii

Getting up at 4 am can sometimes be rewarding. It was a bit spooky to climb in the absolute dark of new moon in the cliffs at the north shore of West-Maui. I checked out this spot the day before, in the middle of nowhere along Kahekili Highway. But in the pitch-black night I just could not find the spot again, despite having a torch with me. After one hour climbing up- and downhill and with the first hints of daylight finally coming to support me, I got back to “my spot”. Being the clouds in this time exposure very dramatic and the rocks very contrasty, I liked the shot best in black and white.
