Animals are a tough target to shoot. Especially when your focus is rather landscape: mountains typically don’t move as fast as animals do. Plus, I never use any automation feature of my cameras, so no autofocus and I always set exposure time, f-stop and ISO manually. But once in a while I am keen on going for “moving targets”. Luckily, a Gorilla is moving in a more predictable way than for instance an eagle soaring the skies or a squirrel pacing the woods. It still took a while waiting until this gentleman was looking to me *and* was in the right position to have some nice backlight from the low hanging sun, accentuating the back fur in the way it had in my mind.
The image was shot using a 400 mm lens on a full frame camera, using a mono-pod to provide a certain degree of stability, while still being flexible.
