Aconcagua, South Face (Pared Sur)
The Aconcagua (located in Argentina) is with 6.962 m or 22,841 feet the highest mountain of the world outside the Himalaya. I made this shot of the famous South Face (Pared Sur) close to Plaza Francia, a camp located approximately at 4.200 m or 13,800 feet at the foot of South Face. South Face is one of the highest walls in the world, reaching vertically over nearly 3.000 m or 9,800 feet from Plaza Francia right up to the summit. In the foreground you see the massive Horcones Glacier that stretches from the foot of South Face nearly 10 kilometers or 6 miles downhill. The Horcones Glacier feeds into the Lower Horcones River (Rio Horcones Inferior) and joins Rio Horcones Superior at Confluencia.
